Snow pr

Snow PR works in many area's of PR, they work with in celebrity placement, public relations and sales, press days, events and shows as well. This means that they have a varied office and can offer more to clients. They have clients such as Pam Hoggs on their books.
They also work hard to make sure that they can get their clients into paper based and online based media, which is important since both are influential, however paper based sales have dropped. Therefore it is important that they keep up with current trends.

Funding for Placement year

I have started to look into funding for my placement year.
I have managed to find out how much it will cost for me to take a year out, tuition wise. On the coventry student finance page, it states, that a year out for placement, means I will only pay £633.45
For the maintenance loan, you get a slightly reduced rate. This means I will need to start working in London so that I can balance out what I have lost, I have therefore started to apply for jobs so that I can start working and try to save a little.

Creative CV Development.

I have done these 2 designs for my creative CV. I started off with changing the contents of my CV so that it was shorter, and moving my references into my portfolio. My QR code, leads to my portfolio where they can be found and my work can be found too.
I then decided that it still looked boring and didn't reflect much of me, I therefore decided to use my scarf print so that I could show off my photoshop skills and show more of my personality.

Creative CV

Here are some examples of creative CV's that I have found and are hoping to be inspired by.
I particularly like this CV because of the styling and the use of pictures that there are. It is also more colourful, and still means I can keep my basic style of my old CV without going too overboard with it being creative.
QR Code - I can have a QR code in the top left hand corner that will link to my portfolio.

I like the layout of this CV and the JeffHo reminds me of a QR code, I may also make a logo.
Here is also a CV, that I found that has cute drawings however it doesn't really apply to my practice.
I like the layout style, of this one and so will try this one as well, since the style is simple and yet elegant.

I like this CV for the on trend type of font they have used and the colour.

CV Creative Design

Since I am applying for mostly Online Social Media jobs, I have decided to try and fit my blog in with the facebook style to see how it looks. Meanwhile it does not look awful, I do not think that it looks that much better at all and could be limiting when PR agencies look at it, as they may think that I am more interested in PR, which isn't correct. I am therefore not going through with this design as I do not think it will be as beneficial as my black and white CV that I currently have.

Placement day 1

I have started my placement and have been taught how to docket (book clothes out) and have done a few other tasks since they were quite busy so I mainly booked clothes out. Stylists came into the show room such as Theo and Aisha for JLS, we also took a few bags of clothing to the Vogue house and I booked out clothes for Little Mix.

Future Lab Conference - PR Talk

CiCi PR.

CiCi PR represents Zatchels,Lisa Bleu, Jessica Flinn,Angel Eyes,Mya Blue,Zara Taylor and Dannique hairdressers.
Cici PR evolved because of trends in the industry, beauty has demanded to work with fashion companies because they want to be seen as a fashion/lifestyle brands. So they are promoted the same way, which has progressed the company.
A London press office has helped them to evolve because it has become more of the trend where, press, stylists and celebrities can come and view items.

Main Areas:

Editorial PR: getting brand names etc mentioned in magazines, newspapers and online i.e. bloggers. Clients are featured. This is the main area they focus on.

Event PR: Events used to be done by Event companies however due to the recession the budgets are smaller and so want to give the PR company and give 1 budget to 1 company, so they now do events as well. They do 20 events a year for their clients i.e. catwalk shows, Miami swimwear show, product launches, press days, interviews etc.

Expose PR: Celebrity culture. Seeing clients products on a celebrity or mentioned by one. They drive sales and sell products. Brands can sell extra's because people want the swimsuits that celebrities wear.

New PR: Online social media. This is greatly taking off, and is beginning to make itself more important, and will continue to grow until 50% of PR is online social media.

New trends in PR:

Collaborations with celebrities:  Designers at Debenhams managed to create this and led the way. Now their is a Rhianna collection for River Island. Collaborations are fun and attract people because of the celebrity culture. Celebrities maximise PR.

The Future of PR:

You generally need to be able to do everything and now their is on line tools which customers can use and thus removing business from PR businesses. Traditional PR is less at the forefront and less wanted.
Magazines are also decreasing and apps/ websites/ or blogs are increasing. They are quicker to update and can keep up more easily with trends and have more substance.
Events have an online presence as well and this is increasing much faster and more PR is being done via social media.

Conference Future Lab #2

PR - ASOS Marketplace. The future of Online retailing.

Everything changes fast.

Next 5 years will bring more change to retail than the last 100 years
Shops will always be around, but tills might be gone but want to have the touch and feel experience. Shops will be about experiencing the clothes instead of buying. Digital fitting rooms will come into play, you can upload a picture of yourself and put a dress on. People still want offline security. Free returns, delivery make it easier to shop online. Take delivery out of the equation by using 3D printers, this change will happen but not anytime soon.

Where are we at now?
In-store pick up/ pick up depots/ broad delivery options/  free returns.
Apps. (interesting because it's about funcitonal apps, less flashy now more useful. need to make it easier to shop)
Video (sites that use video i.e. catwalk, more sense of the object)
Social networking.. at every stage of our shop, whole social networks devoted to retail.
Daily deals and flash sales. (exploded. fab.com)
Think global.
....More things to buy. more choices to be made.

- e-commerce is one of the fastest growing markets in Europe. 2011 online sales in the uk were £50.3billion or 12.0% of UK retail trade.
- in 2012 an expected 14.0% increase in UK online sales to reach 57.4bn
Europe is to grow by 16.1% to a tota of £197.19 billion. Online retail growth of 16.1%

if all online retailers are offering great visuals, service, product and price, who cuts throught the noise?
a site that knows you
social curation
integrated/ universal checkout.

pinterest is interesting because it has just taken off, but is making more money because people are there to buy and look at stuff. Whoever can do all of this perfectly and can monetise this then they will shape where the industry goes. Need to make the 2 worlds meet without losing creativity.

what might shopping be like this time next year?or in 2 years?
tap to buy it. faster delivery. all technology being linked by preference. if you don't like them what happens ( in china someone brings 3 sizes and waits while you try them on).

Marketplace:
running for 2 years. anyone can sell.Rule is natural daylight.
over 560 boutiques. over 2000 of which are international. 150 cities across 31 counties.
35k sellers on the site
over 1.7 million unique visits per month.
50% of the site traffic is international
over 100k listings live on the site.
in 1 year our top seller has made over £120k

Summary:
the internet is your playground
we're all learning at the same pace
be a jack of all trades
the cream always rises
rep yourself well online. do yourself justice.
google yourself - how easy are you to "find"?
Keep your eye on what's happening. don't put your head in the sand.
it's all very, very, very, exciting. Be Excited!

RichLondon PR

I have managed to secure my placement for RichLondon PR.
I am happy I managed to get this because it means that I am mostly able to do what ever I want and so can take 2 days of university to do the placement. I will be able to work with editors and trying to promote the brand, organising, interviewing brands and trying to get our products on as many people as possible. I will also have to book out rails and book them in as well as doing admin.
This will be good as I am working for WoodThorpe Comms in June 2013 and it will be nice to have some experience before I start so that I can ensure that I do my best as I am hoping by the end of September 2014 I am hoping to have a job offer for me to go into, so I want to have as many skills as I can for my final placements that I will do.

Copyright Research

For the product, we have done a customisation kit. I have needed to research copyright laws because we are wanting to use pictures in the booklet that we are going to make for the how-to's. This is complicated because somebody has left it too late, so I have picked up the task, however they wanted to use pictures from the internet. I then asked if they had already got copyright permissions and this hadn't been done.
Therefore I have researched to make sure that there is no way for us to use the photographs and came across a blog, that had a problem of using someone else's photograph's and so went and saw a solicitor and put up the answers online.
Scenario 1: I copy someone else’s image onto your computer and upload it onto my FTP site but I include a copyright notice and link back to the photographer’s site (I do not notify them that I have done this).
From Burgess:
The first thing that needs to be understood is that every photograph is the intellectual property of the person who took the photograph.  Copyright protection attaches even where the person has not put a copyright notice and even if the copyright is not registered with the Copyright Office.  (You do, however, need to register with the Copyright Office in order to sue on your rights.)
Every copyright holder has certain exclusive rights that attach to their work.  These include the right to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works from the work (there are others that don’t apply to photography).  Without permission, even if you were to give credit to the copyright holder, you would still be infringing their work.
As far as my liability for you loading the copyrighted of the work onto my computer and uploading it from there, I could be subjected to vicarious liability for my part (or, more accurately, my computer’s part) in the copyright infringement.
If you were to contact the photographer and ask for permission to use the photo, you then would not be violating the rights of the photographer provided you abide by whatever terms the two of you agree to.
Scenario 2: I don’t copy their image at all but instead embed it onto my site using the URL of the image that resides on their site – so it appears on my site. I include a copyright notice and link back to the photographer’s site (I do not notify them that I have done this).
From Burgess:
Again, since the copyright holder has the exclusive right to distribute, display and create derivative works from their work, even embedding the photo on your site would violate the copyright on that work.
If you were just to include the link on your site where the image is not displayed, rather than the photo, you would not be violating the photographer’s copyright to the work.
Scenario 3: I don’t copy their image at all but instead embed it onto my site using the URL of the image that resides on their site – so it appears on my site. In this case, I DO NOT include any credit or link back (I do not notify them that I have done this). But if someone were really interested in the source, all they would have to do would be view the image to see where it came from.
From Burgess:
Similarly to the answer to question 2, the display of the image on your site without permission is a violation of the exclusive rights of the photographer.
You need to either ask permission to use the work (which is often freely given when you explain that you’re crediting the source in any way that they’d like) or you need to include the link rather than the picture itself.
http://gigaom.com/2008/09/22/understanding-online-photo-rights/
I have read these and realised there is no way for us to put the photographs in the booklet without breaking the copyright law and thus perhaps getting sued.
In order to solve this issue we have decided that Heather will do illustrations and I will write up the tutorials which need to go just smaller than A5 so that they will fit in the paper bags.

Pepper and mayne placement

I have managed to get the pepper and mayne placement. The comments back was that I was by far the best prepared and that my presentation was very impressive, and I was the strongest candidate and knew what I was talking about. On the 5th of January I will be out doing some behind-the-scene's photo's for the placement which will be going up online. This is one of my idea's which I am getting to implement.
I will be having a further meeting with them in December to meet the other partner. After that for the most part I will be working from home which will allow me to do a second placement if I so wish, which I am hoping to do one on a location instead of from home, since home-based ones are generally easier to get.
I have still not heard anything from RichLondonPR or WallandJones.

The next step is to e-mail and get all of the forms, and send off the relevant ones so that all of the paperwork is sorted for when I do start my placement.

Guerilla marketing

Guerrilla marketing is an advertising strategy in which low-cost unconventional means (graffiti, sticker bombing, flash mobs) are utilized, often in a localized fashion or large network of individual cells, to convey or promote a product or an idea. This allows for a more trendy approach and means they can spend money else where, such as products.
Guerilla marketing campaigns are unexpected and unconventional, potentially interactive, and consumers are targeted in unexpected places. This allows them to be more impacting and receive greater attention as they are more eye catching.
Guerilla marketing has to be unique, engaging and thought-provoking concept to generate buzz, and consequently turn viral. The idea is for the marketing not to be forgotten soon, such as billboards or tv shows. By being so memorable and turning viral it means after a while you will still see some effect no matter how small.
You can do Guerrilla marketing by doing such things as,street giveaways of products, PR stunts, or any unconventional marketing intended to get maximum results from minimal resources. Recently more guerilla marketing utilises new technology i.e qr codes and apps, to engage the consumer and create a memorable brand experience.
Examples of Guerilla Marketing:

LFW 2012 Social Media

I have started to look at how social media is affecting the offline world. Before the 2 worlds were both very seperate but as social media increases it's popularity so much it's interaction with the real world as people are starting to live through social media.
At LFW 46 shows were streamed live by the British Fashion council. On the underground highlights were displayed on screens, which included commentary via Twitter, behind-the-scenes shots from a backstage photographer. This allows the British Fashion council to ensure that people anywhere would enjoy LFW, and also brought in more customers for them.
For people with the Aurasma App,which was launched for the spring/summer collections in September. It means that people can watch additional video content by scanning either the LFW Logo or the cover of the LFW daily newspaper.
This allows for a constant streaming of data between people and business's to go on. Now-a-days you never have to not see something, or read about something because it is either trending on Twitter or is available online. However with new apps and QR codes, it means you can get even more. You get special access and allows you even more access, and the newer the technology used the better the buzz it gets.

Social apps such as Twitter is also allowing for their to be a greater communication between companies and consumers, there is no longer a brand that can hide behind media relations. People can and will, voice their opinions, there is no editing of anything. Companies can't deny as many things, files etc are getting hacked and leaked more than ever. The more they lie the more gets found out. Instead it is about building a relationship with the consumers, via things such as twitter where they can more freely interact with customers and reply. Businesses are becoming more personal.

Interview day

Richlondonpr- researched the company on the train and remembered some of the brands that they represent and where they have been published. They mainly do menswear. The interview was good, I was early and she seemed very impressed with my portfolio and that I had more than 1 interview lined up. Remembered to mention that I did business studies which allows me to look at projects from a business mind as well as a creative mind.
Managed to leave in plenty of time to get to golders green.
Pepper and mayne - arrived early for my interview and set up my presentation on my laptop and edited my slide a little while I waited so that I was ready for when the interviewer arrived. The interviewer was extremely impressed with my presentation and my knowledge of social media as well as my experience. Also seemed to like the idea's that I showed and the ways I wanted to do the social media.
Wall and jones - managed to arrive just on time, and had a little look around the shop and was shown all of the items. Loved the products however I will be doing mainly print work and helping a Spanish girl so everything would go through me which is fine except she is in London and will be working extra days which can waste time being caught up if she is starting many new things when I'm not there. However the experience would be invaluable print wise and they seemed extremely keen and tried to get hold of the other partner so she could meet me too.

Overall the interviews went well and all of the jobs are excellent opportunities, I would prefer the richlondon pr placement just because of the vast opportunities and the links they have already in industry which I haven't seen much of yet and also more of the manual jobs such as booking rails out etc which I will be expected to do when I'm on placement next year. It also seems like I would be allowed much more free reign, which I enjoy as I can come up with better ideas.
I would also love the pepper and mayne placement for 3 months as I could then do that from home and manage 2 placements at once as social media takes less time so wouldn't interfere with my studies at all but is an excellent opportunity.
